The May 16, 2011 The New Yorker <\/em> has a fascinating article by Anthony Lane about Pixar and what makes them tick. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on your thoughts about paywalls) you have to pay to read it, or visit the library. I loved the description about why they are so successful, and Lane is a great writer.<\/p>\n

A couple of quotes rang true to me on the subject of storytelling:<\/p>\n

Brian Larsen, a storyboard artist for Pixar:<\/span>
\n“The story starts telling you what it wants to become.”<\/em><\/span>
\n-John Lasseter Pixar Chief Creative Officer:<\/span>
\n“We go to great, great pains, and jump through hoops, and guys have to work for months to do one little thing, and it’s all in service to the story.”<\/em><\/span>
\n“When you do your job right, and get something perfect, the audience won’t notice it. But if it’s not right they will notice it…”<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
