{"id":143,"date":"2011-07-12T20:59:13","date_gmt":"2011-07-13T00:59:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.willyurman.com\/teaching\/?page_id=143"},"modified":"2014-09-18T13:16:55","modified_gmt":"2014-09-18T17:16:55","slug":"assignment-5-soundscape","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.willyurman.com\/teaching\/comm-481\/481-assignments\/assignment-5-soundscape\/","title":{"rendered":"Assignment 13 &#8211; 481 &#8211; Behind the Scenes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\" align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #888888; font-size: x-small;\">pass\/fail &#8211; 50 points<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\"><strong>Assigned<\/strong>: Thursday\u00c2\u00a0September 18, 2014<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Due:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tuesday, September 30\u00c2\u00a0bring audio and images to class (no content, lose 25 points)<\/li>\n<li>Tuesday, October 14\u00c2\u00a0 Final Project due on server before class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Goal:<\/strong> Create your first audio slideshow \u00e2\u20ac\u201c combining sounds with still images<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">I&#8217;m interested in getting you comfortable with the cameras and recorders and making you \u00c2\u00a0<strong>think about the relationship between the audio and the images.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0Visitors to Penn State get ice cream, look at Old Main, admire Beaver Stadium and sit on the lion. \u00c2\u00a0But what makes Penn State the place that it is &#8211; beyond the obvious? What are the special places, who are the special people? Are there classes that every student talks about? Special faculty? What would a casual visitor to Penn State NOT see because they didn&#8217;t know where to look?<\/p>\n<p>Find a story that captures something about our campus &#8211; it could be an unusual person, a great teacher, the man or woman who takes out the garbage or serves food in the cafeterias. It could be an unusual class, or club, an event, a place where people like to go&#8230;.use your imagination. Have fun.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The finished show should have:<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Audio &#8211; Interview(s) and natural sound. At least one interview. Your finished piece must be 60 seconds or less<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>10-30 images<\/strong><em>(at least)<\/em> -these should connect to the audio, advance the story and be visually interesting. Avoid repetition, think about long, medium and tight shots. Think about details, scene setters, moments.
