Goal<\/strong> – To look for visual storytelling photographs that help tell the story of an issue or news event. To think about the power of visual reporting and how to use images as more than simple records or documents but rather as a powerful visual communication tool.<\/p>\n

For this assignment you need to choose an ongoing current event<\/strong> in the news and decide how to photograph a situation that can help tell the story. You may NOT shoot a portrait or illustration. You MUST find a real situation to cover.<\/p>\n

For example, there are many issues surrounding public schools – budgets, testing, etc. You could get permission to photograph in a school as a way to illustrate the story. Or, given the current unrest in the Arab world, you could photograph at the local mosque and think of how visually to tie that to a news story. The budget, the economy, social issues, anything that is relevant and in the news is fair game.<\/p>\n

OR, you could shoot a news event – protest, rally, demonstration or other event that is connected to a news story.<\/p>\n

You do NOT have to write the text, but you should have in mind the text that would accompany your photos. Your captions should connect the photo to the story.<\/p>\n

For Class I would like three (3) different<\/strong> images – NOT just variations on the same idea. Think about what focal length you’ll need for a given situation, how close to get, what’s happening and where you need to stand.<\/p>\n
