100 points
Assigned:Â Â Tuesday, September 24, 2020
Due: Wednesday, September 30, 2020 – images submitted on Box by 10 pm
What makes a good photo?  All the things we’ve talked about in class and maybe more – moment, composition, light, framing, color…
Goal: To think about how to frame and see moments beyond just recording a simple fact.Â
Assignment:
Based on the feedback and discussion in class. Go out again, and look for situations where people are engaged. Look for situations where there is activity. That could be a protest, or a social gathering. It could be a farmer’s market or classroom.
- Dramatic light
- An unusual angle
- Get closer than normal
- Look for a strong moment
Photos must include people. Photos CANNOT be posed.
I want you to think like a journalist, real moments, humanity, storytelling. Think beyond the obvious snapshot. It’s fine to take those photos too, but your best images should go beyond what you’ve seen before.
Ideas:
- A class outside
- A class inside with social distancing
- Farmer’s market
- Tudek Park (includes a dog park, playgrounds, open fields, people in hammocks, outdoor classes)
- WPSU events calendar (most events are virtual, but not everything)
- COVID testing at Nittany Mall
You will need names so you can write complete AP captions
As with all weekly assignments:
- a minimum of 75 images
- a minimum of 90 minutes of shooting
For Class
