Assignment – 269 – Treasure Hunt II

50 pts

Assigned:  Thursday, September 28, 2017

Due: Thursday, September 28, 2017

Assignment:

Practice all the technical skills we’ve been talking about. Make sure you’re comfortable setting the proper exposure, shutter speed, white balance. Know how to focus your camera…

…AND try to make interesting photographs of PEOPLE.

Think like a Journalist
You CAN’T pose or setup or arrange the photos.

PHOTOS MUST INCLUDE PEOPLE

PHOTOS MUST INCLUDE COMPLETE AP CAPTIONS

Look for the best photos you can find of the following:
Each one should be of a totally different person in a different situation

PICK THREE FROM THE LIST. MAKE INTERESTING PHOTOS. YOU SHOULD SPEND AN HOUR SHOOTING THIS. THEN COME BACK AND UPLOAD YOUR IMAGES.

  1. Freeze the action

Find someone doing something. Capture their action, in a frozen moment.
Remember that to get a sharp picture of action you need to use a fast shutter speed. How fast? It depends on how fast the action is. And it’s your job to experiment and figure it out. :)
Tone and Caption one(1) photo for this.

2. Show movement

Find someone else doing something. Capture their action, but use blur to give a sense of motion in two(2) different ways.  Remember that a slow shutter speed will blur anything that moves (and if too slow will cause everything to be blurry from camera movement). You can also follow the movement and create a blurry background using panning.
Tone and Caption one(1) photos for this.

3. Shallow Depth of Field

Simply defined, Depth of Field (DOF) is how much is in focus, in front of and behind your subject. You can control DOF using three tools – aperture, focal length and distance from your subject.
Make an interesting photo that uses shallow depth of field (of a person or people doing something).
Caption one(1) photo for this.

4. Framing

Use elements in the photo to frame your subject – a doorway, window, arch, or anything else that can act as a frame.

5. Rule of Thirds

Divide the frame into a grid and place your subject on the intersection point

6. Leading Lines

Use the convergence of lines, or a natural path or line to guide us to your subject.

When you’re done, you’ll turn in ALL your raws and 3 toned and captioned photos:
