Video on the server by the start of class

Goal:

Increase your interview skills. And have fun!

This idea is adapted (stolen with permission) from Chad Stevens

I’d like everyone to work in video for this assignment. (Zoom H1 audio recorders and DSLR cameras and microphones are available from either Media Tech or the Lubert equipment room)

Because you are all enthusiastic risk-takers, I’d encourage you to challenge yourself – think about light and framing and how to get the best audio and video possible. This is AWESOME practice.

This is how we’ll do it. You’ll partner up and work with one other person in class. Have you heard of the game Two Truths and a Lie? So each of you will interview your partner. They will tell you/us three stories about themselves, but one of those three will be a lie. (Hence, two truths and a lie.)

Rather than simple statements, get your subject to tell you the story of the truth or lie –  make that story engaging, interesting compelling – and to try and deceive us.

Your goal as interviewer in this case is to practice your interview style and technique.

Audio should be as perfect as possible – find a quiet location, get the mic CLOSE, levels set.

For video look for nice light, a clean background, good composition.

As the interviewee you need to share with us three “facts.” Obviously one being a lie, and we’ll try and guess which one is a lie during our critique in class. If you can, don’t tell your partner which is true and which isn’t.

This is a technical exercise and your use of light and composition are critical to your success on this assignment.

And of course, never forget, this stuff is fun.

turn in:

Export a single .mov with your three interview clips. Put space or titles between the three stories.

Use the ‘archive’ export setting in Premiere for video.

*Also turn in a self-evaluation of your techniques, style and what you learned in the process AND an evaluation of your partner’s  technique and style. Please print and turn in on due date.
