Watch and reflect on the Netflix documentary 13th
I’m hoping everyone has access to Netflix. If not, they offer a free 30 day membership, or I’m confident you have friends with access. (If you can’t get to the film, let me know asap)
The documentary 13th is a powerful look at the factors in American history that have shaped the black experience in our country. It’s also beautifully produced.
Please watch the documentary and write a roughly one-page reflection.
I’m interested in your thoughts on the following:(you don’t have to respond to each and every point, and you can expand on the areas that are most interesting to you)
- What did you learn?
- What surprised you?
- What did you disagree with or mistrust?
- Did it change your perception in any way? Or did it reaffirm existing beliefs?
- Did it give you any specific ideas for the class?
- As a film – what did the filmmakers do to make the story compelling to watch and hear? What kind of techniques did you notice in the filmmaking?
