IN-Class Assignment: Interview and ‘B’ roll of your subject Take about 20 minutes to find and do a brief video interview with a ‘person on the street’. A random person you DON’T know, walking around outside.

  • Ask them two questions:
    • If school were canceled today and you could anything you wanted, what would you do?
    • If the world were going to end tomorrow what would you do today?
  • The goal is to get an interesting response that can stand alone – phrase the question so they answer it in a complete thought. If your first subject is not very good, find someone else.
  • REMEMBER – the camera needs to be VERY close to get good audio. Watch out for wind, or really loud backgrounds.
  • Make sure you are IN FOCUS, PROPERLY EXPOSED, WELL COMPOSED
  • THEN, shoot several video ‘portraits’ – wide, medium, and tight. We need visuals of them NOT talking to cover up the bad video(but good audio) of them talking. Shoot them standing still just looking at the camera – maybe loose, head to toe, then medium, then tight, or shoot their hands, or from the side and the front. Each shot should last 10 seconds. So, in the end, you have a solid 30 seconds of visuals.
