Assignment – 269 – Red or Blue

Due: Friday, November 4th, 2016

Goal:  To practice the skills of approaching, photographing and talking to strangers. To have fun.

Red or Blue??

You’ve probably seen or at least heard of Humans of New York. The documentary project by Brandon Stanton combines photographic portraits with quotes from his subjects. (Stanton spoke at Penn State in the fall of 2014). 

His combination of images and text has connected with millions of people.

Your assignment is to steal his idea and photograph and interview 4  people about who they want to be President of the United States.
For this assignment you may use your smartphone OR your DSLR. These are portraits. Posed. Use the camera that works best for you.

They should be people who have strong opinions on Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump.

They need to be willing to share their opinions.

You MUST find four people total, two for each candidate.

MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR SUBJECT’S COMPLETE NAME, FIRST AND LAST, SPELLED CORRECTLY

To make this work:

1. A strong image  – don’t be afraid to take many photos. These are portraits. You may pose your subject, move them into better light or a better background.
2. Text You must get a strong quote or narrative in the style of a “Humans of New York”  caption.
3. Post the photos to Instagram or Twitter with the caption and the hashtag: #RedOrBlueatPSU
   (If you don’t want to use your personal account, create one for this assignment. Your photos need to be public for us to see them)
