Assignment – 269 – Feature Event

Assigned: Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Due:  Monday, February 18, 2019, by 11:59 pm

Finding Features at an event

Goal – To look for strong visual moments at a daily event. To challenge yourself to see moments, be aware of light, and composition and frame.

For this feature assignment you must find an event, get permission to attend, and shoot feature photos of the participants. This can be any scheduled (non-sporting) event on or off campus. BUT, think about the photo possibilities before choosing!  Will there be decent light? Will the activity lend itself to good photos? Will there be action, emotion, an interesting background, interaction between participants?

Obviously, I hope, it’s clear you are not posing your subjects. You will be looking for real moments in real situations.

Good photos come from good situations – so part of your job (and grade) will be to pick good events.

For Class I would like three (3) different edited images – NOT just variations on the same idea.  Think about what focal length you’ll need for a given situation, how close to get, what’s happening and where you need to stand.

As with all weekly assignments:

  • a minimum of 75 images
  • a minimum of 90 minutes of shooting
