Finding Features

The heart and soul of daily reporting – the feature photograph. Feature photos can be standalone or go with stories. They can be ‘wild art’ – images found by the hard work of the photographer or assigned features from events happening in the community.
Goal: Your first attempt at making images that are storytelling and interesting.  Pay attention to the technical details of the image while trying to compose and capture a slice of life.

Assignment:

Find Two (2) completely different feature photos that capture life in the community. You can use any of the skills we talked about in class for finding your photos – let your fingers do the walking thru the newspaper or let your feet do the walking around the area.

These photos should be from Two (2) DIFFERENT situations.

At least one location should be shot off-campus. Photos may not be of your friends

As with all weekly assignments:

  • a minimum of 75 images
  • a minimum of 90 minutes of shooting

ALL TONED PHOTOS NEED COMPLETE CAPTIONS – WHO, WHAT , WHERE, WHEN & WHY.

USE AP STYLE

  •  write in complete sentences. 
  • Get your facts straight. 
  • Get names – you must have first and last names for the people in your photos
  • Date – when was the photo taken
  • location – where was the photo taken
