Looking
Goal:Â To think about how images and sound work together to tell a story.
Think of this as a warm-up exercise. As a way to stretch your minds and your eyes – to start us all thinking about seeing and taking photos and listening to the world around us.
assignment:
- Use your D7000 and your Zoom H1
Part 1
Photograph at the Lion. Look to show us what the place is like, what goes on there. Time of day will change everything – the light will change, the kinds of people who go will change. Plan to spend about 90 minutes total – you can make multiple visits if you want.
Photograph both the place and the people at the Lion. Look for a strong variety of photographs that will tell us both what the place looks like and who is there. Think in terms of:
%CODE1%
- Place
- These images helps establish the place — they may or may not include some faces.
- Face
- Now, find faces to show who works, plays and exists in this space.
- A Place with Faces
- These images should aim to fill the place with faces, so the viewer can see how people move and interact with the place.
- Faces in a Place
- Finally, show faces in the place, demonstrating how they reflect where they are.

Your goal is visual variety. Interesting photos that give us a range of perspectives on the place. In the end we’ll be combining these images with audio. This is just one way to think about covering a place or event. We’ll talk later about other ways of thinking about this idea.
***************ALL PHOTOS SHOULD BE HORIZONTAL!!******************
